There is so much terminology being used when it comes to being ‘eco-friendly’. But what does that really mean? To make it easier for you to understand and make the right choices, here’s our very own eco-friendly explainer.

An object or substance that can be broken down by nature. For something to be biodegradable, it must decompose into natural elements in a short time. Preferably less than a year.
ClevaFoam® products are manufactured using water in place of toxic substances. These products are OEKO-TEX certified, meaning they have been tested and are not harmful to human health.

A compostable item is made from organic matter and can be broken down into a nutrient-rich soil element. Special composting conditions may be required.
If an object is eco-friendly, this means it is designed to cause little or no damaging effects to the environment.
GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD. GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. GOTS certified final products may include fibre products, yarns, fabrics, clothes, home textiles, mattresses, personal hygiene products, as well as food contact textiles and more. The GOTS label shows that the product has been manufactured in a socially responsible and environmentally friendly manner.

OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for customer confidence and high product safety. This means that the product has been tested for harmful substances and means that the article is harmless to human health.
Organic farming practices avoid using harmful chemicals or genetically modified products while aiming for environmental sustainability and the use of fewer resources.
When something is recyclable, this means that it can be broken down to be converted into new materials and objects.
A renewable resource is one that can be used repeatedly and doesn’t run out because it is naturally replaced. For instance, bamboo doesn’t need to be replanted and grows back naturally, making it a renewable resource.
When an item is reusable, this means it can be used more than once. Items such as fabric bags, cardboard boxes, glass bottles and some plastic bags can all be re-used.
Sustainability means using methods that do not harm the environment so that natural resources are still available in the future.
TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibres are produced from wood pulp from sustainably managed sources, and is a renewable resource. Derived from nature, all standard TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibre types have been certified by the Belgian certification company Vinçotte as biodegradable and compostable, meaning they can fully revert back to nature.
